As you may have read in the local press recently, KC have contracted an external company, known as Purple Sun, to conduct a range of tests on the Karoo services. The KUG welcomes these tests and hope that the results will be published in due time.
In the mean time, the KUG wishes to highlight one crucial area, where it is well known that the Karoo RapidTime services are slightly behind a number of other ISP's services; i.e. the download and upload speeds.
A number of speed tests have been conducted via Karoo RapidTime, on both the Standard and Pro services, along with speed tests from ISPs that offer services from BT Wholesale. These speed tests are published below.
All of the tests where conducted at different times over a number of days, via the speed test at ADSLGuide.

As you can see, the Karoo RapidTime services are amongst the slowest of the ADSL services, when it comes to sheer download and upload speeds. So, assuming that Purple Sun conduct speed tests on the Karoo RapidTime services, the same results will be seen.
Whilst the difference in speed is fairly small (approximately equal to one dial-up user), KC has stated that if any of Purple Sun's tests shows a Karoo service as lacking, something will be done about it. The KUG hope that KC will keep to their word.
The KUG intend on monitoring the downstream speed every month, and publishing their results. If you would like, you can submit your own speed test results, using the speed test at ADSLGuide, to the KUG, and we will include them in the monthly publication.
The information that we require is a link to the speed test result(s), and the name of Karoo RapidTime service to which you are currently subscribed. This information can be submitted (via email) to speedtest@user-group.karoo.co.uk.
